Unexpected research findings

Here’s something to think about.

While expanding the research into ball-handling errors I talked about in this post I decided to also include blocking errors. These are ones where the refs call a blocker for being in the net, or less frequently, a center line violation.

Turns out, home teams actually get called for more blocking errors than visiting teams. It’s not by much, but it’s there.

We know that home teams win more often than visiting ones, all else being equal. Why would they make more net violations, though?

I’d love to hear your theories.
