Energy drives talking, not the other way around

I have been part of many, many online discussions about communication over the years. Invariably, either the original poster or someone in the comments creates a link between how much their team talks and how well they perform. I don’t think they are wrong to see the correlation. I do think, however, they get the causality wrong in most cases.

My suggestion is that more energy and enthusiasm is what leads to more talking on the court. It also leads to better play. So what we see as talking and performance positively correlated is actually two things having the same route cause, not one thing driving the other.

Think about the implications of that.
